Cosmetic
Surgery - Important Consideration
Before Any Cosmetic Treatment!
Cosmetic surgery comes under the banner of plastic surgery. Many doctors will practice cosmetic surgery and even though they are surgically
qualified to do so, they may not have reached the high and stringent standards that are necessary to be able to call themselves plastic surgeons.
The situation can be quite confusing, generally speaking though doctors who specialize in cosmetic surgery are still very experienced, highly
qualified individuals. Most cosmetic surgeons seem to specialize in certain fields, whether it be breast enlargement or reduction, or liposuction
or a combination of several procedures. Cosmetic surgery seems to be the term used most often to describe the aesthetic or cosmetic
procedures which are used to enhance a persons features. Reconstructive surgery which corrects or masks birth defects and the effects of
trauma, surgery or disease can also be carried out by cosmetic surgeons.
There can be little doubt that cosmetic surgery has become one of the most popular avenues for personal enhancement. There are around 13
million cosmetic procedures carried out each year in the US alone. Some of the more common types of cosmetic surgery are abdominoplasty or
tummy tuck, eyelid surgery, breast enlargement, breast reduction, breast lifts, nose jobs, face-lifts, liposuction and the tissue filler injections such
as botox or collagen. Quite often the cosmetic surgeon will specialize in certain areas of cosmetic surgery, such as liposuction or breast surgery.
Larger clinics are more likely to cover the whole range of cosmetic surgery procedures.
Cosmetic surgery is not cheap, but there are now a growing number of anti-ageing procedures which are either non-invasive or minimally
invasive which are quite reasonably priced. It wasn't all that long ago that cosmetic surgery belonged only to those who had plenty of money or
were of celebrity status. Nowadays many of these procedures are available at costs that make them quite affordable. The costs are still a
consideration of course, but one which obviously a large number of people are willing to make sacrifices for.
Once you have decided to go ahead with cosmetic surgery, choosing your surgeon is the next most important thing you will do. Just because you
find a nice looking advertisement doesn't mean that the cosmetic surgery is of a high standard. It is important to verify the physician's medical
license, certifications, experience and which professional societies he or she belongs to. It is even recommended that you consult with more than
one cosmetic surgeon before you make a final commitment. Some of the major cosmetic surgery procedures such as tummy tucks, face-lifts and
breast augmentations etc., all require a general anesthetic, and as such do carry the associated risks which apply to any anesthetic.
Cosmetic surgery is not just pandering to the vanity in human nature. For a great number of people it can mean the chance of a normal life.
Admittedly many of the procedures are carried out for cosmetic reasons, but the associated feelings of well being, improved self esteem, and
self confidence outweigh the physical improvements. Emotional well being should never be underestimated with cosmetic surgery. At the other
end of the scale, having unrealistic expectations is also a concern and one which should always be addressed at the initial consultation. It is
nearly impossible to make the body perfect, but cosmetic surgery can and does make great improvements.
